History lessons from a shopoholic

Hey people,
Today i will talk about Lajpat Nagar's history. Yes i know, knowing about histories is boring but its very interesting for those who visit Lajpat Nagar so much and also for those who love shopping :)
well lets get this started :)
So basically, as you all know that Lajpat Nagar is a residential and commercial complex in south Delhi that was named after Lala Lajpat rai who was popularly known as the "Lion of Punjab". This region was developed in the 1950s and was mostly inhabited by Hindus and Sikhs who relocated from newly formed Pakistan post the partition of India in 1947, however, one will also notice people from neighbouring countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan and Africa residing here.

The Indian Migrants settled in Lajpat Nagar and started small businesses that are now transformed into massive stores situated in the Lajpat nagar , Central market which is also popular and one of the prime shopping zones in Delhi. Today, this suburb falls under the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency and the East Delhi Lok Sabha Constituency.

History has that before settling in Lajpat Nagar the indian migrants were provided refugee camps within the Old Fort premises and later, the Government allotted plots measuring 15ft x 60ft in area like Lajpat Nagar , Patel Nagar , Rajinder Nagar and to fourth.
These plots were constructed like army barracks with asbestos roofs and today have been converted into multi-storeyed buildings and commercial centres. This colony also housed several refugee camps for Bengali widows and is known today as Kasturba Ashram.
Well, i won't get too much into this :D I hope it wasn't that boring as one thought of :)
Here are some pictures showing 1947-1950 times.
